When Mum Wears Scrubs
A heartfelt children's book celebrating the love, care and connection shared between healthcare parents and the children who love them.
As a nurse and mother, I know what it feels like to care for others all day and then come home to the people who matter most.
When Mum Wears Scrubs was created to help children understand why healthcare parents spend their days caring for others and to celebrate the special bond that exists both inside and outside of the scrubs.
Written with warmth, gentle storytelling and beautiful illustrations, this book helps children feel proud, connected and reassured that no matter where Mum is, she is always their mum first.
Written by Australian Registered Nurse, and founder of The Surgi Nurse, Rhiannon O'Sullivan.
About The Story
When Mum wears scrubs, she spends her day helping people who need her care.
But when she comes home, she is simply Mum again.
Through gentle rhyming text and beautiful illustrations, children follow Mum through her day at work and discover that no matter how busy her shift is, there is always time for one more cuddle, one more story and one more kiss goodnight.
This story helps children understand:
Why Mum goes to work
What nurses do
Why healthcare workers sometimes work early mornings, late nights or weekends
That Mum always comes home
That love doesn't disappear when Mum is at work
Meet The Author
Hi, I'm Rhiannon.
I'm an Australian Registered Nurse, former Nurse Unit Manager, mum of three and founder of The Surgi Nurse.
After 17 years of nursing, I wanted to create a story that helped children understand the important work healthcare parents do every day while reminding them that, no matter what uniform Mum wears, she is always Mum first.
This book was inspired by my own family and created with the hope that children everywhere will feel connected, reassured and proud of the people who care for others.
